The inauguration ceremony of the regional airport of Chukurova was held on Sunday in the southern Turkish city Mersin, with the presence of several Turkish dignitaries, headed by Minister of Maritime Transport and Communications Ahmed Arslan, and Omar Çelik, Minister of European Union Affairs in Turkey, and the minister of development Lotfi Elvan.
During the opening ceremony, Arslan expressed his hope to complete the construction and development of the planned airport on the 29th of October 2018, meaning the date previously announced (2019).

"The airport will include a closed area to the area of 12 thousand square meters, in addition to the construction of terminal terminals with an area of 250 thousand square meters, and the internal airport area will be about 500 thousand square meters." He continued
In the same context, the minister said that the value of the construction which was started yesterday will reach 221 million Turkish liras (equivalent to 61 million dollars). In return, the investment’s value in the airport will reach one billion Turkish liras. The airport is expected to have 2500 employees annually.
In turn, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Communications signed a contract with the two companies "Hazaryol" and "Budakyol" after the coalition won the tender with 224 million Turkish liras.
According to the (construction _ operating _ conversion) model, the company will be responsible for the airport, which will serve about 30 million passengers annually.
Chukurova Regional Airport is located in the Tarsus district of Mersin Province, southern Turkey, where the airport will serve Mersin and Adana as well as the rest of the Chokurova region.
The airport will operate on domestic and international flights, and its proximity to the cities of Adana and Mersin will make access to it very easy.
